Screen Printing Service in Seattle

Screen Printed Apparel for Washington Businesses

We screen print on garments and items that hold up to Washington weather and Washington work. Here is what we produce most often.

T-Shirts and Tank Tops

The standard for events, teams, and company culture. We print on cotton, cotton-poly blends, and ring-spun fashion blanks. Minimum order is 24 pieces per design. Standard print area is 15 by 17 inches. Jumbo prints up to 15 by 23 inches available on select styles.

Hoodies and Sweatshirts

Fleece absorbs more ink than t-shirt cotton. We use lower mesh counts and heavier ink deposits so your design does not disappear into the fabric pile. Left chest and full back placement. Common for school teams, coaches, and winter workwear.

Tote Bags and Promotional Items

Cotton canvas tote bags screen print cleanly at 156 to 200 mesh. Full panel front printing up to 12 inches wide. Common for tech company events, school fundraisers, nonprofit campaigns, and trade show giveaways.

Hi-Vis Safety Shirts

ANSI and OSHA compliant. We print only on background fabric areas, never over retroreflective tape. Class 2 and Class 3 certified garments for construction crews, road crews, and utility workers. This is required decoration for regulated job sites. Embroidery hooping voids most Hi-Vis certifications. Screen printing does not.

Need something else? We also screen print on aprons, bandanas, and select specialty items. Call us at 253-922-5793 and we will tell you if your item will hold a screen print.

Three Ink Types for Different Needs

The ink determines how your print looks, feels, and lasts. We use three types. Each has a specific purpose. We will tell you which one fits your order before we quote.

Plastisol Ink (Standard)

PVC-based ink that wraps around fabric fibers and cures at 320 degrees Fahrenheit. It sits slightly above the fabric surface. High opacity on dark garments. The industry standard for bulk orders, construction workwear, and anything that faces industrial washing. Lasts 25 to 50-plus commercial wash cycles with full cure.

Water-Based Ink (Soft Hand Feel)

Penetrates fabric fibers instead of sitting on top. Cures at 300 to 320 degrees in a ventilated dryer. The result feels like part of the shirt, not a layer on it. Best for fashion blanks, retail-quality tees, and premium event merchandise where softness matters more than maximum opacity.

Discharge Ink (Zero Hand Feel)

Uses a chemical reaction to extract dye from 100% cotton fibers and replace it with pigment. The print sits completely flush with the fabric. No raised feel. No texture. Vintage washed appearance. Works exclusively on 100% cotton with reactive dyes. No exceptions. We confirm fabric composition before accepting discharge orders.

Not sure which ink fits your design and fabric? Send us your artwork and garment preference. We will recommend the right ink before we quote.

Industries We Screen Print For

We have outfitted over 10,000 teams since 1977. Here are the industries we serve most often.

Construction Crews and Trades

Our largest Hi-Vis safety shirt buyer profile. Washington construction crews need ANSI Class 2 and Class 3 Hi-Vis shirts with company name and crew ID screen printed to OSHA compliance. Typical order: 24 to 100 Hi-Vis shirts per season with 1 to 2 color printing in approved placement zones. We print on Portwest and CornerStone Hi-Vis styles with full awareness of retroreflective tape geometry.

Schools and Sports Teams

The highest-volume seasonal bulk orders we receive. Typical order: 48 to 200 t-shirts per event or season. 1 to 4 color printing on dark garments with plastisol underbase. Hoodies for coaches and staff often combine screen printing on the back with embroidery on the left chest. We handle mixed-decoration orders under one production approval.

Corporate Events and Tech Companies

All-hands event shirts, company culture merchandise, new hire onboarding kits. Typical order: 50 to 500 pieces per event. 2 to 4 color designs on Bella Canvas or Next Level fashion blanks for premium hand feel. Bellevue and Seattle tech company orders ship via UPS with tracking to any King County address.

Restaurants and Hospitality

Server and front-of-house t-shirts, kitchen crew shirts, and aprons with screen-printed restaurant name and logo. Typical order: 24 to 60 pieces per season. 100% cotton preferred. Staff wash uniforms frequently and plastisol on cotton outperforms synthetic fabrics in commercial laundering cycles.

Nonprofits and Community Organizations

Awareness campaign t-shirts, fundraiser merchandise, volunteer event shirts. 100% cotton blanks with water-based or plastisol inks depending on design complexity and quantity. Nonprofit pricing available. Contact us to discuss your organization before requesting a quote.

How Screen Printing Pricing Works for Washington Orders

NW Custom Apparel believes in upfront pricing. Here is exactly how we calculate your cost. No hidden fees. No surprises.

Garment Cost

Based on blank brand, style, and current wholesale pricing. Quoted per piece at your required quantity. We source primarily from SanMar and S and S Activewear, both within 10 miles of our Milton facility. We pull inventory same-day when production needs it.

Screen Setup

40 dollars per color screen. One-time setup per design. Waived for first-time customers. If your screens are retained from a previous order, reorder setup cost is reduced. We store screens for 12 months.

Order Quantity

The more you order, the lower your per-shirt cost. Setup cost amortizes across the full order. Bulk pricing tiers at 72 pieces, 144 pieces, 250 pieces, and 500-plus pieces. A 6-color setup on a 500-piece run costs a fraction of the same setup on a 24-piece run.

Underbase on Dark Garments

Dark shirts (black, navy, charcoal, dark red) require a white plastisol underbase printed first. This prevents the dark fabric from showing through top colors. The underbase counts as one additional screen. A 3-color design on a white shirt requires 3 screens. The same design on a black shirt requires 4 screens.

Bulk Order Discounts

  • 72-plus pieces: Bulk discount applies
  • 144-plus pieces: Higher volume rate
  • 250-plus pieces: Custom pricing
  • 500-plus pieces: Contact us for quote
  • Mix and match garment types within the same order at no extra cost.

How a Screen Printing Order Works at NW Custom Apparel

Every screen printing order follows the same four steps. We do not skip them. Skipping steps produces errors. Errors cost more time than the step itself.

1. Submit Artwork and Order Details

Email sales@nwcustomapparel.com or call 1-800-851-3671. Include your artwork file, garment type and brand preference, size breakdown, quantity, color count in your design, and delivery deadline. Steve Deland, our art director with 40 years of experience, reviews every file for printability. Minimum line weights, color separation feasibility, and fabric compatibility. We respond within one business day.

2. Receive Your Itemized Quote

Garment cost and decoration cost quoted separately. Screen count and color breakdown shown. Bulk pricing at 72, 144, 250, and 500-plus pieces shown side by side so you see exactly where quantity breaks reduce your per-unit cost.

3. Approve Your Digital Proof

Before screens are burned, we send a digital proof showing color separation, placement dimensions, and Pantone to ink color matches. No screen is burned without your written approval. Changes after screen burning restart setup and may affect turnaround.

4. Production and Delivery

Full run completes in 10 business days from art proof approval. Every piece is inspected under LED lighting before packaging. Ships from Milton, WA via UPS with tracking to any Washington state address or nationwide. Local pickup available Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at our Milton showroom.

Reorder Note: If your screens are on file from a previous order, reorders of the same design on the same garment skip the separation step and move directly to production. Typically 7 business days from order confirmation.

Common Questions About Screen Printing

The screen printing minimum order quantity at NW Custom Apparel is 24 pieces per design. For orders below 24 pieces, DTG printing is available with no minimum and handles full-color designs on cotton-rich fabrics. Contact us and we will recommend the most cost-effective method for your quantity and design.

Learn about DTG printing for small orders

Standard turnaround is 10 business days from digital art proof approval. The art proof step adds 1 to 2 business days before the production clock begins. Total elapsed time from initial quote submission to delivery at a Washington state address is typically 12 to 14 business days on first-time orders. Rush production is available for select orders. Contact us before committing to a deadline that requires fewer than 10 production days.

Vector files like AI, EPS, or print-ready PDF are preferred. They are scalable without resolution loss and separate cleanly into individual color layers for screen exposure. High-resolution PNG or JPG at 300 DPI minimum at actual print size are accepted with a small color separation fee. Raster files require manual color separation before screens can be burned. Vector files eliminate this step.

See our artwork preparation guide

There is no hard color maximum, but each color requires a separate screen and a separate press pass. Cost increases per color screen. At very high color counts (7 or more distinct colors), four-color CMYK process printing produces better results at lower setup cost than individual spot color separation. Send us your artwork and we will recommend the most cost-effective color approach before quoting.

Learn about color count and pricing

Dark-colored shirts require a white plastisol underbase printed first, before any color layers, to prevent the dark fabric from showing through. The underbase is an additional screen, an additional press pass, and requires a flash cure step between the underbase and the first color layer. A 3-color design on a white shirt requires 3 screens. The same design on a black shirt requires 4 screens.

Yes, with low-bleed plastisol ink formulation. Standard plastisol on polyester causes dye migration. The polyester fabric dyes turn to gas above 300 degrees Fahrenheit in the conveyor dryer and migrate upward through the ink layer, shifting the print color. Low-bleed plastisol cures at 275 to 280 degrees, below the dye volatilization threshold, while still achieving full cure. We use low-bleed plastisol automatically on all polyester and high-polyester-content orders.

Learn about fabric compatibility

Yes, subject to current production load. Rush orders completed in under 10 business days carry a production premium. Contact us before committing to a hard deadline that requires rush processing, we confirm availability on the call.
